School zone speeding fines

Assumptions:

  1. Several municipalities were sampled. All municipalities sampled reported that they enforce school zone speeding infractions on a basis of how many miles per hour (MPH) over the 20 MPH school zone limit the offender is sighted for.

  1. WYDOT Drivers Services reported an average of 761 school zone speed violation fines under $100 over the last 5 reported years.

  1. The average fine for the aforementioned 761 school zone speed violations is estimated to be $75.00. Therefore, setting a minimum school zone violation fine at $100.00 would increase the average collection for school zone infractions under $100.00 by $25.00. ($25.00 x 761 = $19,025).
